Any country that wants to contribute to the aims and goals of ASA is welcome. So in general every parent organisation that applies, can become a member. They have to commit to the following application process and rules.

  1. The future member fills in this form
  2. They get a ‘Mentor’ to help them with their questions (check the Mentor Program)
  3. They agree with the memo (in the future statues) and code of ethics (Check the separate documents)
  4. The board of ASA (3 board members) evaluates the application in the spirit of the above stated (only one parent organization per country can become member of ASA!!)
  5. When a country is willing to donate > € 5.000 in the grant process, they will become member of ASA
  6. When a country is willing to donate < € 5.000 they will become an associate
  7. The ASA board informs ASA members of the new members/associates.
  8. Associates can remain in this status for a maximum period of one grant (= 2 years).
    1. After 2 years the associate donates > € 5.000 per grant --> they become member
    2. After 2 years the associate donates < € 5.000 per grant --> they are not an associate of ASA anymore, an other parent organization can apply

Rights/duties of a Member:
A member commits to the approved code of conduct of ASA
A member commits to paying their donation in time
A member can participate in bi-annual ASA meetings
A member gets at least one vote in the Grant process
A member can endorse ASA board members

Rights/duties of an associate:
An associate commits to the approved code of conduct of ASA
An associate commits to paying their donation the next ‘Grant Round’ or after max. 2 years
An associate can participate in the bi-annual ASA meetings
An associate does not have a vote in the Grant process
An associate can not endorse ASA board members

Both new members and associates get a “mentoring parent organisation” to make sure they get introduced properly and fast in ASA processes and procedures. And to make sure that they get access to the international network of parent organisations.
